Zelle® is a convenient way to send and receive money with friends, family and others you trust through your bank or credit union’s mobile app or online banking.  All you need is your recipient’s email address or U.S. mobile number, and money will be available to use in minutes if they’re already enrolled with Zelle®. Your account information and activity stay private. Zelle® is available in over 2,200 bank and credit union apps, so you can send money to friends and family even if they don’t bank at M&T Bank.

Zelle® is a convenient way to send money to family, friends, and others you know - like your personal trainer, babysitter or neighbor.{{d5021*}} Before you send money, confirm your recipient is enrolled in Zelle®.

Since money is sent directly from your M&T Bank account to another person’s bank account within minutes{{d5021*}}, Zelle® should only be used to send money to friends, family and others you trust. 

Zelle® is a great way to send money to family, friends, and people that you are familiar with such as your personal trainer, babysitter or a neighbor.

If you don't know the person, or aren't sure you will get what you paid for (for example, items bought from an on-line bidding or sales site), we recommend you do not use Zelle® for these types of transactions. Neither M&T nor Zelle® offers a protection program for any authorized payments made with Zelle® – for example, if you do not receive the item you paid for or the item is not as described or as you expected.

To get started with Zelle®, log into the M&T Mobile Banking app or in Online Banking and select Send Money with Zelle® to enroll.

With Zelle®, you can send, request, or receive money with people who are enrolled in Zelle®. To get started, log into the M&T Bank app or Online Banking. From the main menu in the app, select "Send money with Zelle®" or go to "Payments and Transfers" within Online Banking.

Send money: Choose a contact (or enter a trusted recipient’s email address or U.S. mobile number), enter the amount and an optional note, review, then select “Send.” Your recipient will get a text or email notification (based on how they enrolled). If they're already enrolled, the money is typically available within minutes.

Request money:  Select “Request,” choose who you’re requesting money from, enter the amount and an optional note, review, then select “Request” again. The person you're requesting money from must be enrolled in Zelle® - otherwise they won't receive the request. 

Receive money:  Share the email address or U.S. mobile number you enrolled with and ask them to send you money with Zelle®. If you're already enrolled, the money is sent directly to your M&T Bank account - typically within minutes.

If someone sends you money and you're not yet enrolled, follow these steps:

  1. Open the link in the payment notification you received by text or email.
  2. Select M&T Bank.
  3. Follow the prompts to enroll and receive your money. Be sure to enroll using the same email address or U.S. mobile number that received the notification.
